NEWS FLASH +++ 27/1/07: Liz is awarded the Friendly Cup! +++ +++ 27/1/07: Congratulations to Roy on becoming Ringing Master +++

Welcome

This is the bellringing website for Donhead St Mary in Wiltshire, just over the county boundary from Shaftesbury, Dorset.

What is here

In this site, you can learn about the history of the bells and ringing in the village, what we ringers are up to now, and how we are members of the Mere Branch of the Salisbury Diocesan Guild of Ringers.

Recent News

Our January quarter peal in Plain Bob Doubles sadly foundered in the sixth extent due to a mis-call.   Nevertheless, it gave good practice to Vikki on the treble and to Gerry ringing inside.

The AGM on January the 27th voted in Roy as our new Ringing Master, taking over from Liz who has stepped down due to pressure from her other commitments.   We look forward to seeing Liz ringing with us again in the not too distant future!   We are planning all sorts of exciting activities as part of the Fete on the 23rd of June - more of that in due course.   The Outing will be organised this year by Jonathan, and will probably be at the usual time in August.   We also hope to arrange some young ringers' events, combining ringing with something else in the day.   Again, more details to come.

December was quiet, though it was good to have people around to ring on Christmas morning for the family service.   We also continued the tradition of Ring Out the Old, Ring in the New between 11.30 pm on New Year's Eve and 12.15 am on New Year's Day.

Welcome to another new learner: Emily, who joins Emma and Billie.   It is good to see them making early progress.

Generally

We meet on Wednesday evenings and aim firstly to enjoy ourselves, to ring and to learn new things, to meet up with old friends and make new ones. Our ages range from teenagers to pensioners.
